State Shoot Guidelines/Application
Goals
- Promote a consistent and high quality shoot for the shooters.
- Make it easier for a range manger to put on the shoot by defining the shoot structure.
How to Get the State Shoot
- The club/Range must be an NSCA and PSCA member in good standing
- Must have held a PSCA Zone or State Shoot, or a manager who has held one of these shoots at the discretion of the PSCA board.
- Must complete the shoot application and submit to the PSCA shoot coordinator at least 1 month prior to the Annual state meeting - held at the state shoot
- Must be selected by popular vote at the annual meeting (Balloting will be available all weekend and close at the annual meeting - when ballots will be counted)
- All clubs wishing to host the state shoot must hold a minimum of 3 - 100 target events during the following years:
- The year they apply for the shoot.
- The year prior to hosting the shoot.
- The year they host the shoot. (State Shoot counts as 1 event.)
- Upon being awarded the State Championship, the host clubs must pay their NSCA & PSCA dues for the 2 years necessary to host the events. This will allow for early scheduling and publication of the events with the NSCA.

- All money paid for options will be paid back to the appropriate shooter. (100% of all money paid in is paid out) - NSCA Rule.
- Concurrents as recognized by the NSCA.
Concurrents will be eligible for both class and concurrent prizes providing the full entry fee is paid, and they are eligible in both concurrent and class. (Example: Shooter X wins class "C" and is also a Junior. If the full entry was paid, then he/she is entitled to 1st in "C" class as well as placement in Juniors).
- Shooters who win HOA or RU will be pulled out of class and will not be eligible for class money or trophies. They are still eligible for Concurrent providing that full entry was paid. A shooter who enters Concurrent only and takes places in class is entitled to concurrent only and no class money shall be paid.
- The Following should be addressed for Shoot-offs
- Prominent Shoot-off Board stating Who, When and where
- Pre-determined course of fire
- An area not involved in the next days shooting
- Separate Shoot-off areas for M-A and B-E so they can be held at the SAME time.
- 3 Pair - would be recommended
- Try to deal with the Shoot-off as early as possible (Prelims on Friday or Saturday)
- Would be cool to be lighted - gives more flexibility on the time.
- The shooting ground owner or promoter shall be required to furnish insurance for the event and a certificate of insurance will be on hand at the time of the shoot. This insurance will be the responsibility of the owner/promoter and not the PSCA.
- All events MUST be pre-registered.
- A shoot flyer must be mailed and at least 1 month in advance of the shoot
- Clear directions must be on the flyers
- The Main event and 5-stand MUST be squadded and scheduled. The other events may be scheduled as well.
- WinScore is provided by the PSCA and MUST be used.
- Shoot-off policies and schedules need to be established and well posted prior the beginning of the shoot.
- Complete Results and payments must be mailed within 2 weeks of the shoot (Sunday)
- Leader Board will be placed and maintained in a central location.
- List all shooters.
- Indicate resident status
- Classes
- Concurrents
- Options
- Show scores for all events
- Computer Printouts or hand written will be accepted
- All games such as long bird, make or break, flush, etc. will be up to the shoot promoter. Club rules will be in effect, however, the rules must be clearly written down and posted at the clubhouse and the place where the shooting is to be done.
(Including the shoot-off structure and the final winning of the event).
- Facilities for the annual meeting must be provided (Seating, Public Address, lighting)
- All Pa residents shall be members in good standing with the PSCA. Any Pa resident who desires to shoot the state shoot and is not a member of PSCA, may join on the day of the event.
- Registered Target requirement and associated penalties are described in the NSCA rule book.
- The score keepers will be responsible for keeping a master sheet on the course. Each shooters score will be recorded twice. Once on the individual score sheet and once on the master sheet. With this system, there is little chance for error either by scorer or contestant.
- There MUST be water at LEAST every third station regardless of distance between stations.
- There must be rest rooms (portable facilities) set up at no less than three locations on the course. This is not to preclude the placing of facilities at the 5-stand location or the FITASC parcours. These facilities must be maintained during the weekend.
- There must be a gun rack at each shooting station
- There must be a place to sit at each station.
- Shooting boxes are to be constructed to prevent a chance injury. (i.e., boxes that can tip over, have bad flooring, etc. Boxes, which are poorly constructed, should not be used).
- Considerations: Not rules - just thoughts
- Target Setting: Obtain a known target setter
- The name will draw shooters
- It is one less thing to worry about
- Gives you a chance to work with them
- It is s different ideas for your course
- Takes the targets out of the bitch cycle
- Traps: Rent Autos for entire event
- They come with setting and Maintenance crew
- It is one less thing to worry about
- More flexibility for setting
- Less help needed (over manuals)
- Has become a standard with Pa State Shoots
- Winscore Specialist : Hire a pro to run WinScore for the shoot
- They can make the system do anything
- It is one less thing to worry about
- They are fast at entry
- They can pump results for shoot-offs quickly
- They can get results on the Web for you - fast
- They can report to NSCA - fast
- They can get you final results out - fast
- Your computer dude can learn tricks from them
- Rain: Trap protection, weather resistant score card and control sheets, traction
- Hot & Dry: More water, dust control, shade
- Medical Support: First Aid kits, inquire about skills on hand, alert EMS of event.
- Food: Money to be made from a kitchen - also keeps shooters happy
- Course Trail: Carts have become a standard, it would be nice:
- Have a 2 groove path
- Not have to back-up
- Have the trail be safe at all times
- Not have the shooters waiting on the path
